Guidelines for Accreditation, Reaccreditation, and De-accreditation of Faculty in the Program

The request for accreditation or reaccreditation must be submitted for approval by the CPG of PPGEEs by faculty members who meet the requirements outlined in this regulation.

The evaluation of the accreditation or reaccreditation request for the Master’s and/or Doctoral program will be conducted by the PPGEEs Accreditation, Reaccreditation, and De-accreditation Committee, composed of three members: two internal and one external to the Program, with affiliation to graduate programs (Master’s and/or Doctorate), and must follow the established criteria.

Each accreditation will last for four years and will coincide with the CAPES Quadrennial Activity Report.

For the purposes of faculty evaluation regarding reaccreditation, their performance in scientific production, research, supervision, and teaching will be considered.

1. ACCREDITATION FOR THE MASTER'S PROGRAM

Faculty members holding a Doctorate in Education, Special Education, or related fields who present a scientific output of at least four (4) qualified academic publications (scientific journal articles, authored books, book chapters) in the last four years may be accredited as professors and advisors for the Master’s Program. At least two of these publications must be articles classified by the area in the reference Qualis journal ranking, with a minimum classification of A4.

If the doctorate is not in Education or Special Education but in a related field, candidates may be accredited if they meet one of the following criteria: a) Have or have had a CNPq scholarship granted by the Special Education area; b) Have produced a doctoral thesis on a topic clearly related to Special Education; c) Have published, as the sole author, at least three papers in journals with a thematic focus directly linked to the Special Education field, classified as National/International in the reference Qualis journal ranking with A1 or A2 classification.

The accreditation request must be accompanied by an updated digital version of the Curriculum Vitae (Lattes version) and a research project outlining long-term study developments, addressing a theme related to Special Education and linked to a PPGEEs Research Line the candidate intends to join.

Based on the committee's report, the CPG of PPGEEs will approve the faculty accreditation, valid for four years.

The CPG will decide on the admission of new faculty members based on the indices defined in the Education Area Document for Program evaluation and the needs of the research lines' development.

2. ACCREDITATION FOR THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM

Faculty members holding a Doctorate in Education, Special Education, or related fields who meet the following requirements may be accredited as professors and advisors for the Doctoral Program: a) Eight (8) qualified academic publications (journal articles, authored books, book chapters) in the last four years, with at least five articles classified by the area in the reference Qualis journal ranking, with a minimum classification of A4; b) A minimum of three years since obtaining the doctoral degree; c) A minimum of two successfully defended Master’s theses supervised; d) A minimum of three courses (mandatory and/or elective) taught in the PPGEEs in the last quadrennium; e) At least one ongoing research project.

The accreditation request must be accompanied by an updated digital version of the Curriculum Vitae (Lattes version) and a research project outlining long-term study developments, addressing a theme related to Special Education and linked to a PPGEEs Research Line.

3. REACCREDITATION

PPGEEs faculty reaccreditation may occur every four years.

For reaccreditation at the Master’s level, the following requirements will be considered: a) Four (4) qualified academic publications (journal articles, book chapters, authored books) in the last four years, all classified in the reference Qualis journal ranking, with a minimum classification of A4; b) Supervision of a Master’s dissertation and/or Doctoral thesis; c) Teaching at least four (4) courses (mandatory or elective) in the PPGEEs in the last quadrennium; d) At least one (1) registered ongoing research project.

For reaccreditation at the Doctoral level, the following requirements will be considered: a) Eight (8) qualified academic publications (journal articles, book chapters, authored books) in the last four years, all classified in the reference Qualis journal ranking, with a minimum classification of A4; b) Supervision of a Master’s dissertation and/or Doctoral thesis; c) Teaching at least four (4) courses (mandatory or elective) in the PPGEEs in the last quadrennium; d) At least one (1) registered ongoing research project.

4. DE-ACCREDITATION

Faculty members will be de-accredited from PPGEEs, after CPG review and based on the assessment of a committee composed of internal and external members appointed by the CPG, in the following cases:

  • Faculty members who request de-accreditation;

  • Faculty members who do not meet the criteria specified in the previous sections;

  • Faculty members who fail to comply with the Coordination’s requests regarding deadlines for filling out reports required by CAPES;

  • Faculty members who, in the CAPES quadrennial evaluation, do not meet the required research output criteria.

A de-accredited faculty member may not open positions in the subsequent selection process or offer courses. However, they may complete ongoing advisement and submit a new accreditation request.

Omitted cases will be analyzed and evaluated by the CPG of PPGEEs.

Transitional Provisions: PPGEEs will conduct faculty accreditation annually and on a rolling basis, while reaccreditation will take place at least every four years.
